Project Objectives

The proposed project will strengthen Acholi community participation, cultural connection and access to support by delivering culturally responsive activities for families, young people, elders and newly arrived community members.

  • Improve community connection: Increase opportunities for Acholi families and individuals to participate in safe, inclusive and culturally meaningful community activities.
  • Support settlement and wellbeing: Provide practical information, referrals and culturally informed support that help community members access services and navigate life in Victoria.
  • Strengthen youth and family engagement: Create opportunities for young people and families to build confidence, leadership, cultural identity and positive intergenerational relationships.
  • Build organisational capacity: Improve Acholi Community ’s ability to plan, deliver, monitor and evaluate community programs through stronger partnerships and volunteer coordination.

Project Activities

Acholi Community Association in Victoria Inc will deliver a coordinated program of community activities designed to address settlement needs, strengthen cultural identity and improve participation across generations.

  • Community information sessions: Host practical sessions on settlement, education, employment pathways, family support, health and access to local services.
  • Cultural and intergenerational activities: Facilitate events that promote Acholi language, history, music, dance, storytelling and shared learning between elders, parents and young people.
  • Youth and family engagement activities: Provide workshops and group activities that support leadership, confidence, belonging and positive family relationships.
  • Referral and partnership support: Connect community members with relevant services and strengthen collaboration with community organisations, schools, councils and service providers.
  • Volunteer and program coordination: Recruit and support community volunteers to assist with planning, outreach, delivery, attendance tracking and feedback collection.
