The Acholi Community Association in Victoria Inc. is a community-led, incorporated organisation supporting Acholi people and families across Victoria through cultural preservation, settlement support, community connection and capacity building.
Our origins: The Acholi people in Victoria
The Acholi people are a Luo ethnic group with roots in South Sudan and Northern Uganda. Many Acholi community members in Victoria have refugee and migrant backgrounds, having arrived through humanitarian and family reunion pathways. Our association was born from the need to support these individuals and families as they establish new lives in Australia.
Building a stronger community since 2004
The Acholi Community Association in Victoria Inc. was formed in 2004 and officially incorporated in 2007. This provided a formal structure for advocacy, cultural continuity, leadership and essential support for Acholi people living in Victoria. Since our establishment, we have diligently worked to strengthen community participation, support newly arrived families, promote social wellbeing and preserve Acholi language, culture and identity for current and future generations.

The strength and success of the Acholi Community Association in Victoria Inc. comes directly from its dedicated members. Acholi men, women and youth form the backbone of our organisation, contributing their time, energy and unique perspectives to achieve our shared goals. It is their commitment that makes our association special and allows us to effectively support the Acholi community in Victoria.
